Snow Lake – Hispar La Trek Pakistan 2025

Welcome to Pakistan! When you arrive at Islamabad International Airport, our representative will meet you and transport you to your accommodation. Depending on when you arrive, you may have time to tour the city. Islamabad is one of the world’s greenest capitals, and we can arrange cultural orientation tours to the Faisal Mosque, the Daman-e-Koh viewpoint, and Saidpur village. Later in the afternoon or evening, your guide will provide a full trek briefing on safety, route, gear check and expectations for the adventure ahead

On a clear day, an early morning scenic flight over the Himalayan and Karakoram ranges would offer breathtaking aerial views of Nanga Parbat, Rakaposhi, and probably even K2. Once you arrive in Skardu, you will be taken to your accommodation. The rest of the day is spent relaxing and exploring. You may wander through Skardu Bazaar, see Kharpocho Fort (an optional short trek), or walk along the banks of the magnificent Indus River. It’s also an excellent day to do any final purchasing for personal items or trekking snacks. Note: In case of flight cancellation due to weather, a backup overland drive via Karakoram Highway (2 days) will be arranged.

We spend a relaxing day in Skardu to help us acclimatise. You can take a short trip to Satpara Lake, visit the stunning Shigar Fort—a 400-year-old fortress converted into a heritage hotel—or simply relax and breathe in the mountain air. This is also the day that we manage trekking permits, finalise logistics with porters, and prepare for departure. Our experts will double-check your equipment and assist with any last-minute changes.

Today, the true adventure begins as we leave the paved roads and journey into the rugged interior of Baltistan. The jeep drive follows the Braldu River through tight gorges and rugged routes, with breathtaking vistas of mountains, glaciers, and traditional Balti villages. Askole is the final permanent village before the desolation of the Karakoram. When we arrive, we meet our support team of porters and culinary personnel and set up our first camp. This night under the stars is the beginning of our expedition trail.

Start your trip by going along the Shigar River to Askoli, which is the last town before you reach the wild. Meet the trekkers and begin your journey. You will have to cross fields to get to Namla. Full-service camping as a place to stay Breakfast, lunch, and dinner

As you follow the Biafo Glacier, you’ll walk along lateral moraines that give you stunning views of faraway peaks. Get to Mango, which is your second campsite. Full-service camping as a place to stay Breakfast, lunch, and dinner

Take a break at Baintha to get used to the altitude. You can hike up nearby hills to get great views or just relax in this peaceful area.

This is a rest day for you and the trek crew to help with acclimatisation to the high altitude. You can relax in camp or if feeling energetic walk up a ridge behind camp. From here there are fine views of the Latok group and the Ogre. Look out for Ibex that are often seen on the grassy slopes above camp.

As you continue to climb along the Biafo Glacier, you will come across cracks and icy peaks. Camp at Karfogoro, a beautiful place with stunning views.There are superb views of many peaks including the Ogre at an altitude of 7,813m. Today we get the first views of the Hispar La and Snow Lake. We camp at Morfogoro located off the glacier.

Get to the beautiful Snow Lake, which is a large glacier basin surrounded by high mountains. This amazing site is the best part of the hike.The name Snow Lake was first given by Martin Conway, a British explorer who visited the region in 1892. He was so amazed by the landscape that he said it was the most beautiful mountain view he had ever seen, and doubted that anywhere else in the world could compare. His words reflect just how special and breathtaking this remote part of the Karakoram truly is.

As we move across the wide, snowy expanse of Snow Lake we begin our climb toward Hispar La Pass. While the slope is not very steep, walking at high altitude makes it feel more tiring. We also stay alert as there may be hidden crevasses along the way.
When we reach the top of Hispar La (5,151m), the views are truly unforgettable. Looking back, you’ll see the full stretch of the Biafo Glacier Snow Lake and the mighty Ogre Peak (Baintha Brakk). Looking ahead the vast Hispar Glacier leads the eye toward the towering peaks of Hunza.
We set up camp right on the glacier, surrounded by towering mountains and endless ice a night you’ll always remember.

We begin the day early with a careful descent from Hispar La passing through a section with crevasses which requires attention and teamwork. As we go lower the glacier becomes more gentle and easier to walk on.

Further along, we cross the Kani Basa Glacier where it meets the Hispar Glacier. This creates a rough and broken area where the two glaciers push against each other. After crossing, we reach our camp at Kani Basa, a grassy spot with incredible views of Kanjut Sar (7760m) one of the tallest peaks in the region.

This day is quite challenging, as we need to navigate rocky ridges walk across loose scree and wade through several glacial streams. Later in the day we continue to Yutmaru, where we set up camp on the side of the glacier for the night.

Overnight: Full-service Camping (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

After walking for about an hour, we carefully descend a steep slope and cross a small side glacier. Once across, we rejoin the main valley where the path becomes easier and more comfortable to walk on.
Our camp for the night is at Bitanmal a wide grassy meadow often used by local herders from Hispar village. It’s a peaceful and scenic place offering a refreshing change after many days on the glacier.

We’ll begin the day by crossing our last side glacier the Kunyang Glacier which leads us into the final stretch of the trek. After the crossing, we make a steep climb up a rocky path.
Soon after we’ll cross a mountain stream, and from there, the trail opens into the beautiful meadows of Falaling Chhish a wide green area perfect for resting and soaking in the views.

We continue our descent through the valley beginning with one final small glacier crossing from a nearby side valley. As we walk further the first views of Hispar village come into sight it’s a special moment marking our return to civilization after many remote days in the mountains.
After a few more hours of trekking we cross a bridge and finally reach Hispar village surrounded by the lush green orchards and farmlands. The vibrant colors feel like a welcome contrast to the icy high-altitude landscape we’ve left behind.
We set up camp on a grassy field near the village, where you can relax and enjoy the peaceful setting.

We begin the day with a jeep ride from Hispar to Nagar village, following a narrow mountain track that eventually connects to the Karakoram Highway. Road conditions can varymif the track is damaged we may need to walk a short distance before continuing by vehicle to reach our final camp of the trek.
If the road is in good shapenwe’ll continue driving directly  to Karimabad a beautiful town in the heart of Hunza Valley.
Once we arrive in Karimabad we check into our hotel. The rest of the day is yours to rest, clean up and explore the area at your own pace.

We begin our early morning drive from Karimabad to Chilas traveling along the Karakoram Highway with stunning views of the mountains and valleys along the way. The journey takes several hours passing through dramatic landscapes as we descend toward the town of Chilas.

After breakfast we drive from Chilas to Islamabad following the scenic Karakoram Highway back to the capital. Once we arrive we’ll check into our hotel and take time to rest and refresh after the long journey.
Later in the evening you will have the chance to explore Islamabad or simply relax at the hotel. We’ll end our expedition with a special farewell dinner as a team a time to share memories celebrate the journey and reflect on this unforgettable adventure through the Karakoram.
