The Thalay La trek connecting Khaplu and Shigar is considered one of the easiest and most scenic trekking routes in Baltistan. Nestled at the base of the mighty Karakoram Mountains, this short and popular trail passes through the lush and picturesque Khaplu and Shigar valleys.

These valleys are known for their fertile orchards vibrant summer meadows and stunning alpine flowers. During the warmer months, the landscape comes alive with farmers tending their fields livestock grazing in the pastures and children playing freely under the open sky. The trek itself follows glacial streams and paths lined with wildflowers offering a peaceful and photogenic environment. Shigar and Khaplu also serve as key bases for expeditions to some of the major peaks of the central Karakoram range.

Located in Ghanche Gilgit-Baltistan, Thalay Valley sits along the Shyok River about 30 km west of where the river meets the Indus at Keris. Rich in natural resources such as water wildlife pastures and minerals Thalay Valley is divided into two parts: Upper Thalay and Lower Thalay.

One of the most beautiful spots in the region is Thalay Broq a favorite destination among both local and international tourists.
